THEFT OFFENSES

If you have been arrested and charged with theft in the state of Alabama, call the offices of Ted Williams today. Mr. Williams is an experienced defense attorney and will work together with you to defend your rights and make sure you receive fair treatment in the courts.

In Alabama, the severity of the theft charges depends on the value of the goods that were allegedly stolen. The below schedule outlines the usual charging procedure:

• $500 or less. This category is most often brought as a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by no more than one year in jail. The exact punishment for a conviction will depend on the specifics of the case, prior convictions, and other factors.
• $500 – $2,500. These theft charges are listed as a Class C felony and come with anywhere between one and ten years in prison, plus a possible fine.
• $2,500 and up. The highest category of theft in Alabama is a Class B felony, where a conviction will mean a minimum sentence of two years, up to a maximum of twenty. This charge also comes with the possibility for a large fine.

As soon as you are arrested or charged with theft, contact an attorney right away to being working on your defense.
